The Worldâs Championship Horse Show has been held annually in conjunction with the Kentucky State Fair since 1902, having missed only one year, 1942, due to World War II. The competition brings horses, owners, showman and workers from around the world to Louisville, Kentucky for the most prestigious event for American Saddlebreds, Harness Hackney-Ponies and Standardbred Road Horses. Outside the fairgroundsâ Freedom Hall, where the horses compete, the stables are filled with extravagant rest areas and make shift bed rooms to accommodate those that stay among the horses day and night for the week that the show takes place. This yearâs competition took place between August 19 and August 25, with a total purse of over $1 million dollars.
