Athleticism Defined by Women Over 40
In the current culture where young girls cleat up, practice free throws, and cheer on professional female athletes, women in their midlife are redefining the image of a female athlete and playing sports. Women between the ages of 40 and 60 were raised when female athletes were not taken seriously and had few outlets to play sports. They are women experiencing empty nests, career changes, menopause, bone loss, weight management and simply celebrating friendships through sports. They are soccer moms who drove their children to and from the practice field, and watched from the sidelines. They are women who have not given up on their bodies, factor out age and simply play sports.
